Hibernia Continent Map
The map of Hibernia, the coldest and furthest continent in the world.
North of the White Depths lies the continent of Hibernia. It is a land of extremities and historical significance, and its southern region is home to Askaheimr, the northernmost kingdom of humans. In the north, the lands of Eredore are home to fearsome giants and peaceful goliaths. A splinter group of the drow lives in their crystalline city near the barren slopes of the Adamantine Sierras.
Cold and wind, rain and snow are constant companions to anyone who travels here, and while the Aska people may seem standoffish at first, their frosty demeanour thaws as quickly as rime on a sunny spring day.
So come, traveller, visit the legendary Mount Sorrow that once covered our world in ash, look for treasures in the Forest of Souls, and be welcome in Rustrun, the farthest human city in the world.
At first, Hibernia was only a sliver of a continent on the northern side of my Gorlassar continent map. Just enough to give two of our players some things to consider when creating their characters.
But in November 2023 the characters of our homebrew game heard about a mysterious library called Grönviken, and started slowly making their way there. And I knew it was time to draw the rest of the continent.
It was the perfect opportunity for me to take Deven Rue’s Cartography Course on Patreon. It’s an incredible resource, packed with ideas and methods for creating fantasy worlds. So by supporting a wonderful creator, I reviewed some of the things I got wrong when I first created the Gorlassar map. I also wanted to make sure the rest of my world feels somewhat realistic since I have at least one more continent in mind.
I started planning out the whole planet of my homebrew setting by deciding where the equator and prime meridian were. Then I placed Gorlassar and my original sliver of Hibernia on the map and fiddled around until I got their location just right to fit the climates etc. I then added tectonic plates and even drew my ocean currents. This process took a long time, and I will only say this: I have space for at least a few more continents.
With these in mind, it was time to draw the rest of Hibernia. It took quite a few months to finish, as it is a gigantic artwork, but I love the result. Rebelle 7 and Affinity Designer 2 were my friends in this endeavour. It’s still a work in progress. I constantly make little tweaks as we explore this place, but this is a version I’m happy with.
